The UK's Sutton Harbour Holdings has been selected by the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) to develop and operate the Cowes Outer Harbour Project on the UK's Isle of Wight.
The company fought off competition by two other tendering companies “Marina Developments Ltd” and “Premier Marinas”.
The regeneration of the East Cowes harbour is a joint project between SEEDA, the Cowes Harbour Commission (CHC) and the Crown Estate. Plans include the provision of a new outer breakwater to offer better protection and improve the wave climate within the harbour, as well as the construction of a 300-berth marina with separate provision for visitors and events.
Cowes harbour master Stuart McIntosh says: "This is a major milestone for this project that will finally make Cowes a truly sheltered and safe harbour”.
"The commissioners, the yachting and local business communities consider this development as essential to ensuring the long-term prosperity of the harbour and the local economy. I therefore hope that the next milestone, and final required consent, will be the planning committee granting approval of full planning consent next week."
